Doesn’t he look like a happy teenager? What makes a teen boy more happy than pizza? Well, maybe video games and girls… Oh, and music! But pizza is at the top of the list with these! But, you say, this is a post about holiday outings. A pizza place for the Holiday Hand-Picked? Are you crazy, you ask?

With all the holiday hoopla, running here and there, eating rich meals made up of mashed potatoes, gravy and some sort of protein, a nice simple pizza (or salad, pasta, burger) might be a welcome change. But more importantly, this outing is about slowing down and remembering to spend some special time with those you love (especially a teen who may be “too cool” for some of the so-called “little kid” things 😉 )

Earlier this month I was invited to a soft opening of the new Seattle location of New York Pizza & Bar in lower Queen Anne. They have other locations in Lynden and Bellingham. I had a great date with my 14-year-old son (though I am sure that this place would be a fabulous date night for the hubby too and awesome for groups – they have a wonderful Happy Hour!)

If you are heading to the Seattle Center for the WinterFest festivities, or the Nutcracker at the Pacific Northwest Ballet (see, there is a holiday connection!) this versatile venue is the perfect place to meet up for a bite beforehand with a group of friends, have a date with the significant other, or take the family (very family friendly!) – affordable, nice atmosphere, fantastic service and tasty food!

Here’s a peek at the feast we enjoyed!

Lovely salads – I recommend the Greek salad! –  and mini Kobe beef, gorgonzola, bacon burgers.

Luscious lasagna with house-made meatballs. Oh, so cheesey!

Teen-boy-approved pizza – nary a vegetable in sight!

Oh and dessert! Don’t skimp! You must try this warm brownie sundae 🙂

What are your favorite non-traditional things to enjoy during the holidays? And who are you spending some special time with?
