Lucky enough to attend the new Teatro ZinZanni production!
Teatro ZinZanni continues to amaze during its 15th Anniversary year in Seattle with its latest dinner-circus-cabaret production, Lucky in Love.
Filled with romance, intrigue and lots of fast-paced hijinks, Lucky in Love is the perfect date night for you and your honey. There is certainly something for both of you in this show! (And on the dinner menu!)
Though I wasn’t with my other half, I had a fantastic time with my “date” for the night. My brother’s girlfriend – a seasoned ZinZanni audience vet – she’s seen about twelve Teatro ZinZanni productions! Quite the fan, I’d say! (Though, I was missing my hubby when they played, “It Had to be You” – the song that we danced to at our wedding.)
Co-Directed by Joe De Paul (Cirque du Soleil and Teatro ZinZanni veteran) and Tobias Larsson (Co-Director of ZinZanni’s most recent production, Dinner at Wotan’s), the all-star cast of Lucky in Love is chock-full of the world’s top tier circus and cabaret performers.
The show features the internationally renown talents of acrobatic trio Les Petits Frères and contortionist Vita Radionova, this show also stars ZinZanni favorites including acclaimed chanteuse Francine Reed, remarkable trapeze artists Duo Madrona, gentleman juggler Sergiy Krutikov, and former Ringling Bros Clown Peter Pitofsky.
The story centers around Proprietress Ruby who is betting that her casino could hit the big time with a stellar show and a chance to win the GRAND PRIZE. Willing to wager that crooner Ricky La Rue is just what the casino needs, Ruby offers the ultimate jackpot: a suitcase full of money! Acrobatic mimes, juggling dealers, high-flying love birds, and a contortionist cat burglar give Ruby more than she bargained for. The stakes have never been higher and as the old saying goes, if you are unlucky at gambling at least you’re Lucky in Love!
We enjoyed the food just about as much as the production. And a shout-out to our server, Rebecca, who was awesome – so attentive!
Teatro ZinZanni Executive Chef Erik Carlson has designed an all-new casino-inspired menu for Lucky in Love, including an appetizer, salad, entree and dessert, with entree choices of gourmet Beef Wellington, Northwest Salmon, or Pasta Primavera (gluten and dairy-free options available).
It all started with the Baked Ricotta-Brie tart with fresh berries and then moved on to the salad – Vegas style Hearts of Palm Salad with butter lettuce, heirloom tomatoes, English cucumbers and spicy Coppa ham with a green olive – angostura bitters dressing. Oh, so good!
For her entree choice, my guest ordered the TZ Beef Wellington – All natural hand cut tenderloin baked in delicate pastry with a wild seasonal mushroom sauté and bleu cheese crumbles; served with smoked cheddar potatoes au gratin and oven roasted asparagus.
And I enjoyed the wild salmon stuffed with an Italian style relish of sun-dried tomatoes, toasted pumpkin seeds, Parmesan and fresh basil topped with a zesty tomato butter and served with a basil – thyme quinoa and oven roasted asparagus.
I am very particular about how my salmon is cooked and this fish was cooked perfectly! (I always wonder how they are able to do that when serving so many people all at the same time!)
Not to be outdone by the meat eaters, I heard from others at our table that the vegetarian option, caramelized pear and gorgonzola ravioli with shaved fennel, fresh basil and shaved sweet onion, was quite delicious.
It certainly looked beautiful!
But the surprise hit of the night was (what they call) a “Menu Enhancement” – an add-on to the four course meal – that I highly recommend you try when you go!
The Lounge Lizard Nosh – a plate artfully arranged with Pearl Vodka filled cherry tomatoes on zesty guajillo salt (I just wanted to lick this salt clean after the rest of the items on this plate had been devoured!) with warm marcona almonds and jumbo garlic stuffed green olives – is very simple, but incredible!
I usually prefer to eat my tomatoes over drinking them, so this is one take on a Bloody Mary that I can get behind!
