As the event manager for the Arboretum Foundation in Seattle I get to throw parties in one of the most amazing venues in this city. I am so excited to share this one from last month. It features a very simple theme and fun elements that anyone can use for an elegant party at home in the garden.
It’s all about the circles!
As I designed the invite above for a celebration of the Foundation’s most generous donors – the Arbor Circle – I wanted to emphasize different shades of green to represent the all important trees, and circles to symbolize this very special circle of people.
Centerpieces, placed on every table, were simple with cut greens (see what you can do with just greens – your garden need not be blooming to make these!) in small round vases topping cut-out paper circles. I used tag-board in various shades of green for these paper circles, and mixed the colors at each table.
A very elegant, yet fun and economical solution for decorating multiple tables.
The table coverings – in two shades of green linen – one dark, one light – were stunning and vibrant on round high-boy tables set against the beautiful, lush, green backdrop of the garden courtyard. It just took my breath away!
One way to add a touch of fun to your outdoor event is to hire a food truck to serve your guests – I hired local food truck, Big Food Mobile.
They were just amazing to work with! And it was no accident that their truck blended in just perfectly with the greenery of the Arboretum background.
Their service was incredible and the food was awesome. Just look at those wonderful flatbreads! So delicious! (Side note: BigFood is opening one of the new eateries in the new(old) Armory at the Seattle Center House! You must go try them!)
Of course, as a “green” event we had clearly labeled compost, recycle, and garbage bins.
And for dessert – These cupcakes from New York Cupcakes in Madison were very popular with guests. I just adore these Lil Shirley Temple minis – they were the perfect two-bite size for a party.
A lil cherry cake baked up in a cup, topped with sweet lime buttercream, fresh lime zest, and finished off with a maraschino cherry. Heaven!
An all-one-flavor presentation gives a cohesive look to the dessert table. You can even rent the tiers right from the cupcake store.
Such a wonderful ending to a fabulous night!
